The maker of the coffeepot, Alexander Petrie, was a successful silversmith in colonial Charleston and his silver is highlighted today in several southern museum collections. The Charleston Museum and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina own similar coffeepots.
